Ryan was born in Kimball, Nebraska and grew up in the Scottsbluff, NE area. In boarding academy Ryan sang in the select choir, chorale, a male quartet, and a mixed quartet. His first three years of college he attended Western Nebraska Community College where he sang in a Jazz Choir, Jazz quartet, and a community Classical group. He was able to travel to New York and Colorado with the Jazz groups, and to do some recording with the Classical group. His last two years of college were at Union College in Lincoln where he sang with the select choir and octet. He was able to tour Russia and Alaska with these groups.

After graduation in ’97 Ryan toured with Acappella as part of the road crew and a singing member of Kenosis. 'Ryan is such a great blessing to Vocal Union -for his talent, but even more -for his intense love for God and his dedication to music ministry.'
