Guess who’s back? That is... Guess who's back in Acappella?

Whoever just came to mind, chances are good you might have an opportunity to hear that person sing at an upcoming Acappella event near you. It's the next era of Acappella we've named The Legacy Project.

Everyone has a favorite Acappella singer(s). Launched in August of 2014, Acappella Legacy showcases the talents of The Acappella Ministry’s past and present singers in concert and on new albums. The group membership lineup varies from event to event, featuring vocalists from multiple eras of the group's 40-year history in fresh and exciting new combinations for fans to enjoy.

Recent events have featured George Pendergrass, Gary Moyers, Rodney Britt, Robert Guy, Jeremy Swindle, Aaron Herman, Ken McAlpin, Nicolas Dunbar, Brishan Hatcher, Matt Nunnally, Robin Brannon, Zachary Wilson, Jabbarri Jones, Anthony Lancaster and Wes McKinzie, just to name a few. And there’s so much more to come!

Utilizing the best of the best, Acappella continues to perform and recently released 40, an album celebrating 40 years of music ministry.

“From the start, our mission has been to glorify God by carrying His message to the world through a cappella music,” Keith Lancaster said. “God has provided many talented music ministers along with countless opportunities for them to apply their gifts. This model provides Acappella’s vast legacy of singers with new opportunities that will bless people for years to come.”

Acappella: A Brief History

Believing in the amazing versatility and flexibility of the human voice, the legendary vocal group Acappella can fill a large concert hall with beautiful, intricate music without ever playing keys, plucking strings or beating drums.

A 2007 Inductee to the Christian Music Hall of Fame, Acappella has toured the globe for the past four decades, since Keith Lancaster – founder, producer, songwriter and original lead singer – formed the group in 1982 (as His Image).

Originally based in Paris, Tennessee, the group saw its grassroots fan base grow throughout the 1980s while navigating membership changes and experimenting with fresh new sounds. Their landmark album Sweet Fellowship (1988) ushered in one of the most significant developments in the group’s lineup and style. Preceding its release, Lancaster stepped out of the group as lead vocalist to dedicate full-time focus on his role as producer and manager. The group continued shaping and developing a unique, signature sound that would prove to be a stylistic model for countless small groups around the world, from high-school stairwells to large churches and auditoriums.

A short two years later, Acappella kicked off the 1990s by signing with Word Records. A prolific decade, the group's popularity continued climbing with their now classic releases Rescue, We Have Seen His Glory, and Set Me Free. Increasing media exposure included several broadcast television appearances, while the song “More Precious Than Gold” from Set Me Free became the centerpiece of a Sony camcorder television commercial, receiving extensive nationwide broadcast exposure and garnering accolades and attention from a national audience.

Hymns For All The World further increased Acappella's profile in the 1990s. The universal reception of this heavenly sound grew to immense popularity around the world.

In it's 40-plus years of ministry, Acappella has traveled to nations all across the globe, including the UK, Europe, Central and South America, China, Jamaica, Guyana and Brazil.
